James Cook, B: 1745, New London, CT

Samuel Brown Cook was in the War of 1812.. Samuel married Sarah Lewis. They migrated to Oneida County, New York before 1818. After 1821, they migrated to Constantia, Oswego County, New York, where they remained. They are buried in the Constantia Center Cemetery in the town of Constantia. They had seven children, and many of them and their descendants are also buried in the same cemetery.

The military service he requested the Bounty for was for soldier enlisted under Captain George Lyman, in Militia, Connecticut, commanded by (he believes) Col. Smith in the war with Great Britian, 1812. "He entered the service at Torrington, CT on or about the 15th day of October 1813 and continued in actual service in said war for the term of fourteen days and upwards, and was honorably discharged at New London, CT on or about the 25th day of April 1814 verbally."
Two witnesses were Henry Champlin and John G. Bedell residents of Oswego County, State of New York. Signed by Homer Hayes, J.P. County Clerk of Oswego certified Homer Hayes as J.P. on 20 Jun 1855.
Samuel Cook was 68 years as of the day of application.
Barbara Knight's application for veteran records stated Samuel B. Cook's date of birth as Jan 13, 1784, place of death as Bernhards Bay Oswego County, N.Y. date of death as Aug 2, 1856, place where he lived after service as Constantia, Oswego County, N.Y., and widow's name as Sarah.
Headstone also lists date of death as Aug. 2, 1856.
