bullet  General Notes:

Joseph, brother to Daniel, sailed on the HERCULES, on or about 31 Mar 1634,
approximately a week after Daniel sailed on the MARY & JOHN. Joseph took his oath of allegiance on 24 Mar 1633/34, also. [1633 under old calendar; 1634 under new calendar] He was to have sailed with Daniel on the MARY & JOHN but remained behind to look after their chattel. Little is known about Joseph LADD between this date and 1644 when his name first appeared on a deed of John ANTHONY, Portsmouth, RI. (New England Historical Genealogy Register, Vol. 9, pg. 267) [paraphrased!]

From Warren Ladd's book, p. 288: "We think it is evident, though there is no positive proof, that this Joseph Ladd was a younger brother of Daniel Ladd, who came from London in the Mary and John in 1633. The reason for this belief is the fact that John Anthony, whose deed of land to Richard Tew in 1644 Joseph Ladd was a witness, took the oath of Supremacy and Allegiance to pass to New England in the Mary and John, Robert Sayres master, 24th of March, 1633, but "stayed over to oversee the chattle," and came in the Hercules, John Kidder master, which sailed a week later than the Mary and John, in which Daniel Ladd came. [See New England Historical and Genealogical Register, vol. 9, page 267.] John Anthony settled at Portsmouth. R. I. Joseph Ladd lived at Portsmouth, R. I. The inference is that Joseph Ladd, a minor, lived in the family of John Anthony, was a relative of Mr. Anthony or his wife, and went to Portsmouth with him."
