Family stories say Henry Kappesser was working as a security guard around a fuel storage area. He was lighting a cigarette when a fire started which resulted in a fuel tank explosion where he was killed at the age of 18. His wife, Gale L Coonley Kappesser died shortly after leaving an infant daughter, Eva Mary Kappesser.
