Notes from Ardelle Anne Ladd Dreeson: Military Career: 1925 2nd Lt. assigned Battery D of New Hampshire's 197th Coast Artillery (A.A.). He attended Officers training school in Virginia in 1936. He was commissioned Captain in 1938. The NH National Guard was sent on maneuvers for over a year in 1940 to Camp Hulen, TX. A temporary base on the Gulf. In Dec 1941 they left Hulen for the troop trains/ship in the northeast. The 197th spent the WWII years in the Pacific. Edgar Ladd was commissioned Major and Lt. Col. during his overseas duty. From a note in the Portsmouth Herold - "Captain Ladd and his men repaired a Navy in or around New Guinea. Capt. Ladd and many of his men built and repaired submarines as their peacetime work on the Portsmouth Shipyard.
