Elias A LADD

Email from Autumn and Amber Leiser: What we have found out about the Ladd family is that in the 1850s census in Pierpont, Ashtabula,Ohio from ancestry.com is that Elias Ladd age 74 was married to a Polly Pier age 37, Elias was a farmer and she also working on the farm they had a son named Elias A. Ladd born 1849 in Peirpont, Ohio. In the 1860s census Elias Ladd is no longer listed so he must have passed on between 1850 and 1860. What we were thinking is that Polly must have gotten pregnant and Elias married her, so then in the 1860 census Polly (Pier) Ladd is the Head of Household with Elias A. Ladd being 10yrs old and a Phebe Pier being 74yrs old, Phebe is Polly's mother. Polly was born in 1813 in New York her mother Phebe born in 1786 in Massachusetts. Polly had a brother named Calvin Pier born in 1817 also in New York, In the 1870s census they all lived together Polly, Elias A., Phebe, Calvin and still in Pierpont,Ohio Calvin also being a farmer was married Mary Pier they had 7 children, in the 1870 census only the two youngest children were listed a Francis Pier (male) and a Nellie Pier. You'll understand why I told you about Calvin's family in a moment, ok now in the 1880s census Elias A. Ladd now 31yrs old was a soldier farm laborer in Coeur D'Alene Lake, Kootenai, Idaho, somewhere in between 1880 and 1890 Elias A. Ladd married a Ann E. (have no maiden name) Ladd born 1867 in Northern Ireland immigrated to the United States in 1880. I believe they must have met in New York because my grandfather Francis (Frank) H. Ladd was born on a Army base in New York State on Aug 17, 1890, there is no record of them in the 1890s census. I was able to find them in the 1900s census in Carlisle, Lorain, Ohio and that's were I started from because my mother never new much about her father and she never new his father's name or mother's name, so I kept going back and back in the census and ended up with Elias Ladd born 1776 in Connecticut then my sister Amber found on Familysearch.com Elias Ladd parents Jesse Ladd and Rachel Taylor and she took it from there and found laddfamily.com. So on with the story in the 1900s census I found Elias A. Ladd, Ann E. Ladd, Francis H. Ladd and Nellie Ladd, Francis my grandfather and Nellie being my great aunt, so Elias named his two children after his two youngest cousins Francis and Nellie Pier, Calvin Pier's children and that's were Calvin Pier fits into my story. In between 1890 and 1893 Elias and Ann must have moved to Ohio because that is were Nellie Ladd was born in Sept of 1893 then I can't find anything on either of them until the 1930s census Francis (Frank) Ladd now 39 home in 1930 Metuchen, New Jersey he was married to a Cora Ladd and they had three boys Fay, Albert and Jimmy Ladd. Nellie Ladd now 36 was married also to a Fay Dalrymple and lived in Highland Heights, Ohio they had 6 children Marietta, Maxine, Herbert, Walter, Robert Dalrymple and I'm not sure of the youngest child's name. My grandmother Frances Macdonald was never married to Francis Ladd but had 5 children from him Nellie (b:1944), Marietta (b:1945), Herbert (b:1947), Shirley (b:1948), Anna Ladd (b:1950) all born in New Jersey Anna being Amber and my mother. Francis Ladd died Sept 10, 1960 in Edison, New Jersey he was 69yrs old. Nellie (Ladd) Dalrymple died in 1968 she was 75yrs old.

Elias married Ann E UNKNOWN. (Ann E UNKNOWN was born in 1867 in Northern Ireland and died on an unknown date.)
