Notes from Jeanine Ricketts - Childrens births recorded on May 10, 1798 by the Town Clerk in Alstead, Film #015,054. In the First Congregational Church records, dating from 1791, Joshua Crane is listed as a member in full communion. After their marriage, Joshua and Miriam attended the First Congregational Church, as in the skimpy records that have been preserved, Joshua Crane's name appears in the records in 1790/91, 1797 when Joshua was voted Moderator of the Church, and in a list written up in August of 1811, when he (along with Elizabeth (Davis) Farnsworth and several of Miriam's brothers) are identified as some of the few original members left. Though it is not directly stated, the list infers perhaps that the above were “charter members.” Since the Joshua Crane family was in Alstead until at least 1811, it is possible that Miriam Hatch-Ladd-Crane died in Alstead, if the 1814 date is accurate for her, though I did not locate any death records for either of them in Alstead. That is not surprising as death records were not regularly kept. Only just once in while, a few of them crept into the town records. However, I did not find a cemetery listing for them either, which is odd, I would think, as they would have been buried in the Alstead Center Cemetery adjacent to the Church, unless they were buried on their own property, as some were. I think Joshua Crane was deceased by the 1820 census,
