Notes from Warren Ladd: At the age of 21 he went to Boston and worked at stone-laying; was toll-keeper on the Mill Dam twelve years, when he hired to Frederick Tudor, late Tudor & Co, as agent in the ice business at Calcutta. where he remained for about thirty years, and during the last part having an interest in the company. He left their employ in 1864 and came to Watertown in 1866, where he lived until his death.
