He served in the military in 1756. He was in Col. Merserve's Regt. during the French-Indian War. He died in Vermont. He was a soldier in the French and Indian wars, and served in the Revolution in Col. Nichols' Regiment. In 1779 he was a selectman and he was often on committees appointed by the town. He lived in the north part of Rindge. In 1803 James removed to Vermont.
James married Elizabeth (Betsey) CUTTER, daughter of Jonathan CUTTER and Elizabeth HASTINGS, on 14 Nov 1776. (Elizabeth (Betsey) CUTTER was born on 28 Dec 1738 in Lexington, Middlesex Co, MA and died on 28 Jun 1838 in Reading, Windsor Co, VT.)
