Notes from Warren Ladd: of Brewer, ME
Bangor News, Bangor, ME, Saturday July 21, 1906: BREWER MAN KILLED FRIDAY - Simeon Ladd, a Painter, Touched Wire and Fell From Staging - Simeon Ladd of Brewer, employed by Shaw & Eldridge of this city, while painting the exterior of the building in Pickering square at the corner of Water street, owned by John McCann, fell from a staging abut 40 feet from the ground, at 3:30 o'clock on Friday afternoon, sustaining a broken back. Death resulted a few minutes later. Ladd was working between two wires which had been pried apart for his convenience. He was seen to accidentally strike a wire, lose his balance and fall to the sidewalk. He landed on his back and in the presence of bystanders breathed his last. Either the shock killed him or at any rate the fall was sufficient to cause death. The remains were taken to charge by Coroner Kelliher, who decided an inquest unnecessary. Simeon Ladd lived at 208 Center street, Brewer, and was 66 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Alice Eaton Ladd; three sons, Clinton O Ladd of Belfast, Ralph and Fred Ladd of Brewer; three daughters, Carrie, Iza and Isabelle Ladd of Brewer; his mother, Mrs Eliza Haley of Bucksport and a sister, Mrs M T Smith of Bucksport. The deceased had resided in Brewer 21 years and was highly respected by a large number of people.
