William L. Brown, son of James W. and Martha [Carper], applied for a U.S. patent on land about two miles southwest of Southwick in 1891. His brother, Henry, also owned this land at different times until 1894. In 1897 it was sold to John S. and S ophia Stump. William Brown married Jennie Holladay and moved to the Teakean area.
