Notes From: Regan - Vol. 3 [Ephraim Beers] m. at Hatfield, Hampshire Co., Mass. 9 Sep. 1680, Mary Gardner. While their marriage is recorded at Hatfield, there is no record of birth there for a Mary Gardner. Boltwood's book on the families of Hadley, Mass. noted this marriage and identified Mary as the daughter of Thomas Gardner of Roxbury, Mass. That Mary Gardner was married in 1665 to Dr. Thomas Boylston and was a great grandmother of President John Adams. It seems reasonable to assume that the Mary who married Ephraim was a member of the Hatfield Gardner family. Three men of that name took the Oath of Allegiance there 8 Feb. 1678/9: Samuel Gardner, Sr., John Gardner and Jacob Gardner. The deaths of Nathaniel and Samuel Gardner are recorded there in the year 1676; Savage mentions a Joseph Gardner of Hatfield. Further research might place Mary as daughter of widow of one of these men.

Mary next married Dr Thomas BOYLSTON on 13 Dec 1665. (Dr Thomas BOYLSTON was born on 26 Jan 1645 in Watertown, Middlesex Co, MA and died about 1695 in Charlestown, Suffolk Co, MA.)
