bullet  General Notes:

Notes from Jeanine Richetts - Demis Ladd's marriage intention filed in Alstead, 30th of January 1791, married in Alstead, the 6th of February 1791, by Absalom Kingsbury, J. P. Her son Jerry stated that his mother Demis Farnsworth died peacefully in her sleep on October 31, 1864 at age 93 years, 9 months, and 19 days. Using a date calculator, she was born on the 12th of Jan 1771. Demis lived with Jerry for many years prior to her death. Her gravestone is very difficult to read; I have seen it and the last digit could be a one or a four. We have gone with son Jerry's testimony which is printed in his biography published in the History of Buffalo and Erie County, 1884, while he was still alive. He died in 1889. I have two written records that state that the father of Demis Ladd was Lemuel Ladd. The first one is a genealogy printed in Virkus' First Families, Vol. VII, page 155. It came from a descendant of Azel Farnsworth, Demis's son. The second, comes from a record out of Bureau County, Illinois, for one of the children of Lenda (Farnsworth) Robinson, Demis's daughter.

"He [Thomas Farnsworth] married Demus Ladd who died in Alden, Erie Co., N. Y., aged nearly ninety-four years. She was a daughter of Lemuel Ladd, who was of Scotch descent and a soldier in the Revolutionary War." (Source: History of Bureau County, Illinois, by H. C. Bradsby, 1885, p. 687)

NAME: Name also written as "Demas" "Dimmis" and "Demer" or "Demus." Demis was the way it was written in the Alstead Birth Records and on her marriage record; also that way on her gravestone; Demas on her son Jerry's death record.
