- Born: 5 Jun 1888, Owen Sound, , Ontario, Canada
- Died: 5 Nov 1918, Morayshire, Scotland at age 30
- Buried: Rothes, Moray, Scotland, United Kingdom
General Notes:
Garfield Thomas Eby, Sr. died overseas of pneumonia at the very end of WW1. His wife, Margaret White, was in the early stages of pregnancy with his son. Garfield had been living in Edmonton, prior to enlisting and had at one point lived with Henrietta and Lindsay, after he married Margaret. He first appears in the Edmonton directory in 1913 living at 613 Pine, 1914 he is living at 16 Rowland Rd., 1915 he is living at Lindsay's house, 10935 123rd St. and in 1916 he is living at 10813 125th St. That is the last year he is listed. He worked as a carpenter, for a number of different companies.
He left an estate that included two lots in Edmonton. Margaret White Eby was in Scotland perhaps visiting her family following her husband's death and was perhaps there prior to his death and became pregnant. She returned to Edmonton, and gave birth to their son Garfield Thomas Eby, Jr. She appears in the Edmonton directory in 1921 living at 11332 - 86th St. and remains at that address until 1925. This home is owned by a George Dunbar. Margaret had a letter sent by the military following her husband's death, to 10575 104th St. which was George Dunbar's address while he was in active service, which suggests that she was acquainted with him before he enlisted. Perhaps he was a friend of Garfield's?
More research will be needed to determine when Garfield enlisted and was sent overseas. - Dawn Eby Quast
