bullet  General Notes:

"A Revolutionary Soldier" on sign erected next to his daughter's (Erede) grave stone in Cicero Center (Stone Arabia) Cemetery. The sign was erected by General Asa Danforth Chapter of the D.A.R. Capt. Ebenezer Crowell enlisted as a Private, Capt. Joshua Gray's Company, (Seacoast Co.), July 8, 1775 and served until Nov. 1, 1775. Roll sworn to in Essex County. He also was a Corporal in Capt. Elisha Hedge's Co. and Col. Nathaniel Freeman Regiment. He marched from home Sept. 27, 1777: sevice 1 mo. 4 days on a secret expedition to Rhode Island. (Page 186 Mass. Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War, Vol. IV , Wright & Potter Printing Co., 1898). On Page 181 (same volume) Ebenezer Crowel - Private, Capt. Johsua Gray's Company; Enlisted, Nov. 1, 1775 and discharged Dec. 31, 1775. Sevice 2 months, 5 days. Travel included in
defense of seacoast. Roll dated Barnstable, MA. (I believe that the second enlistment was the same person- Ebenezer Crowell, even though the second one identified him with one L on Crowel). (Richard L. Crowell, 6/25/01).

Syracuse Post-Standard, 1939 - Capt. Ebenezer Crowell came from Cape Cod to Hawley, MA, in the Fall of 1794. he, as well as his father, Edward Crowell, and his father-in-law, Allen Bangs, were soldiers in the same company of Massachusetts militia during the war of the American revolution.
