bullet  General Notes:

From Sprague's Journal of Maine History, Barnard, Piscataquis County, Volume III, Page 220. William moved from Saco and settled in Williamsburg on what was later the Robert Williams place, later moving to "Ladd Hill" in Barnard. Moses Head came from Bowdoinham with a large family of girls. His daughter Elizabeth married William Ladd.

From The Ladd Family of Piscataquis County, Maine: Marily M Cary; West Palm Beach, Fla. Feb 22, 1974. William lived in Saco after his military service until his removal to Williamsburg on May 2, 1820. He settled on what is known as the Robert or Robin Williams place, located just east of the present (1974) home of Paul Foulkes. A cellar, stone wall, and maple trees remain there today. Directly across the road is the cellar where Eben Greenleaf and family lived - a first settler of Williamsburg in the summer of 1810.

On Novemebr 8, 1821, William purchased land in the portion of Williamsburg which later became Barnard. It was located on the Town Road , or Green Road, on the right, near where Lew Damon lived in 1974. He was living on the land when he purchased it from the Barnard heirs. Moses and Eben Greenleaf witnessed the deed. The property was 25 acres for which he paid $100.

On November 25, 1831, he applied for Bounty Land based on his military service in the War of 1812. He received a warrent for 40 acres on August 10, 1852. On March 22, 1855 he applied for additional Bounty Land, and received 120 acres on June 25, 1855.

On a claim for pension which his widow, Betsey, filed in April 1878, she described him as being 5 feet, 4 inches tall, blue eyes, dark hair (it became pure white in old age, and he didn't lose any), light complexion, and was a farmer. Betsey received $8 per month pension until her death. Betsey was about the same size as William with a thin face and dark hair. William's face was quite square, with lots of white hair. He had a very pleasant expression and appeared to be a very kindly man. Many of his children inherites his general appearance and kindly disposition. All of his children inherited his blue eyes.

William is also listed on the 1830 census for Williamsburg, Penobscot Co., Maine, Page 291 and the 1840 census for Barnard, Piscataquis Co., Maine, Page 5.
